A practical checklist for comparing scope, coordination, communication and handover—not only price.
Start with a defined scope
Ask each contractor to price the same work. A useful scope identifies spaces, removal, builder's work, MEP changes, finishes, fixtures and exclusions. Without a common scope, the lowest price may simply contain fewer items.
Understand who coordinates the trades
Renovation work often connects civil, electrical, plumbing, AC, gypsum, flooring, painting and carpentry. Confirm who sequences these teams, resolves clashes and remains responsible for the final result.
Review communication and handover
Agree on progress updates, change approval and how observations will be recorded. A clear handover should include final inspection, correction of agreed snags and practical information about completed services and finishes.
